Welcome

2020 started out as any other normal year and the NAMPO Harvest Day team was, as usual, already full of plans and working hard to ensure the success of this year's NAMPO Harvest Day on the farm. Planning was in full swing and many new ideas began to take shape. Little did we know that the world would change so dramatically and that for the first time in 53 years, a NAMPO could not be hosted? At first there was the possibility to postpone the Harvest Day to a later date, but over time the writing was on the wall and it was clear that it would become increasingly difficult to present a top agricultural show during any of the lockdown levels.

This meant we had to put or heads together - because farmers are always busy making plans - and after a few more gear accelerations, we decided to present a first NAMPO Virtual Show. It was quite a struggle at the beginning to get buy-in for the new concept, especially with the older generation. The model is foreign in South Africa and Grain SA from the outset, had strict requirements to comply with the now well-known, NAMPO Harvest Day standards. The staff went out of their way to find a suitable partner on board to assist with this ground breaking initiative. Many models were submitted and further requirements have been set. The aim was clearly high! It was very important from the outset that the platform should be accessible and simple for everyone to use. From the Farmer in Stella, with slow internet, to the Computer Fundi in Pretoria. Everyone agreed that every 2020 NAMPO visitor should get absolute value, experience this online first as interesting and informative, and for each to still find their 2020 Agri-Vision. Every visitor who joins must be able to take a piece of NAMPO 2020 with them.

We were fortunate that Grain SA's NAMPO Harvest Day partners and exhibitors participated with great enthusiasm and went out of their way to make the exhibitions attractive. Everyone involved was still expected to think way out of the box about a concept that was totally strange to most - and perhaps still is.

Covid-19 shut big doors for the Harvest Day, but the very same Covid-19 made the NAMPO team think anew and forced them to go turn far beyond the farm boundaries - and what a journey it was! Therefore, we can confidently invite you to come and enjoy the 2020 NAMPO Virtual Show with us. Whether from the comfort of your study, from your chair at work or just from your farm under a tree and on your cellphone - thank you for being part of another NAMPO first, and part of another NAMPO generation that can proudly say: "I was there, did you experience it?"

Go well!!
